KOREAN your new best friend

Yummm Korean mmmmmm... It's so good and cheap.

I feel like Korean food often gets overshadowed by Chinese, Japanese, and this new, hip thing called "pho," but it's actually really good and poverty cheap. One of my current faves is this restaurant called Sunrise House.

This place has all the favourites - like pork bone soup, bibimbap, and bulgogi. But best of all, they have my most ultimate favourite soup! Behold! Yuk Gay Jang!

Yuk Gay Jang is basically braised beef brisket, beans sprouts, an egg, and Korean glass noodles in a spicy broth. As you can see, Koreans always give you plenty of goodies along with your meal as complementary appetizers; all for $8.25!

Sunrise House is located at 661 Bloor St W.

FISH MAC N CHEEZEEE

Sup haters? WE'RE BACK!

Actually though, we haven't been here for months and all... That's pretty slipping. Also, forgive us for the amateur photos in this post because that bird, Cosmo Dean, lost my camera charger.

But alas, citizens! This Spring/Summer, we're gonna be banging out news/recipes/reviews and all the good stuff that makes your tummy happy.

FISH MAC 'N' CHEESE

I love macaroni and cheese, it's the shit. It's one of those meals where no matter what your in the mood for, it'll always catch your eye on a menu or make you go dashing for it when someone says their making it.

The best thing about mac 'n' cheese is that you can basically add anything to it (bacon, fish, spinach, etc.) This time, I decided to go with the always reliable talapia because its pretty cheap and neutral, so even people who may not be fond of fish could get down with this variation.

this is an action shot of the mac 'n' cheese at work the next day

Ingredients:
500g box of macaroni or any small pasta
1 1/2 cup gruyere
1 1/2 cup extra old cheddar
1/2 cup parmesan reggiano
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp cayenne
4 filets of talapia or any white fish
1 cup breadcrumbs
5 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
3 cups of warm milk
1 cup of breadcrumbs

Directions:
1. Heat a skillet to medium heat and fry the 4 talapia filets.

2. Once cooked, shred the fish up so its nice and flakey.

3. Preheat your to 375 F

4. Boil a pot of salted water and cook the macaroni.

5. You'll now make a rue which consists of melting butter and flour together to make a paste that is used to thicken soups, stews, sauces, etc. Take 4 tbsp of butter, melt it, and stir in flour. After about a minute, it should start getting really thick. At this point, begin to slowly whisk the warm milk into your rue as it thickens.

6. Add 3/4 of your cheese, paprika, cayenne, fish and mix it all up.

7. Melt the last tablespoon of butter and combine with the breadcrumbs. (This helps it get really nice crispy.)

8. Empty your mac 'n' cheese into a dutch oven or casserole dish and spread the rest of your cheese on top, followed by the breadcrumbs.

9. Throw it the oven for 15 minutes and then turn on the broiler and broil till its nice and golden brown!

now if all goes well your pot should look like this after!
